Provisioning a phone number means activating it so that it can receive calls and route them to your AI assistant. This process takes only a few minutes and is done entirely within the Live Bots 365 platform. Once provisioned, your number is live and ready to handle inbound calls 24/7.

What Is Provisioning?

When you purchase a phone number, it is assigned to your account but not yet connected to any assistant. Provisioning is the step that links the number to a specific AI assistant so that when someone calls, the assistant picks up and handles the conversation. Think of it as plugging the phone line into the right room.

Step-by-Step: Provisioning an Inbound Number

1

Purchase a Phone Number

Go to Phone Numbers in the left sidebar and click Buy Number. Select your desired country, area code, and number type (local or toll-free). Complete the purchase — the number will appear in your number list immediately.

2

Open the Number Settings

Click on the number you just purchased to open its configuration panel. You will see options for inbound call handling, SMS settings, and assignment.

3

Assign an AI Assistant

Under Inbound Call Handling, select the AI assistant you want to handle calls on this number. If you have not created an assistant yet, do that first — see the Creating & Editing an Assistant guide.

4

Set Fallback Behavior (Optional)

You can configure what happens if the assistant fails to connect — for example, forward to a human agent's number or play a voicemail greeting. This is a safety net for edge cases.

5

Save and Test

Click Save. Your number is now provisioned. Call the number from any phone to verify the assistant answers correctly. Use the Testing guide to run a structured test call.

Provisioning Multiple Numbers

You can provision multiple numbers and assign each one to a different assistant. This is useful when you have different departments, campaigns, or use cases — for example, one number for customer service and another for sales outreach. Each number operates independently with its own assistant configuration.

Changing the Assigned Assistant

You can reassign a number to a different assistant at any time. Go to Phone Numbers, click the number, change the assistant assignment, and save. The change takes effect immediately — the next call to that number will be handled by the newly assigned assistant.

Regulatory Requirements

Some countries require identity verification or business registration before a number can be provisioned for commercial use. If a number you purchased shows a "Pending Verification" status, you may need to submit documentation through the platform. This is most common for numbers in Germany, France, and certain other EU countries.
