Many Live Bots 365 phone numbers support SMS messaging in addition to voice calls. This allows your AI assistant to send text messages to callers during or after a call — for example, sending a booking confirmation, a website link, or a follow-up message. SMS is a powerful complement to voice because it gives the caller something tangible to reference after the call ends.
SMS messages are sent programmatically through mid-call tools or via the API. Your AI assistant does not "type" messages — instead, you configure a tool that sends a predefined or dynamically generated message when the assistant invokes it during a conversation.
Checking SMS Availability
Not all phone numbers support SMS. When browsing available numbers in the purchase interface, look for the SMS capability indicator. Numbers that support SMS will show a green checkmark next to the SMS icon. If you need SMS capability, filter the search results to show only SMS-enabled numbers.
Sending SMS via Mid-Call Tools
The most common way to send SMS through Live Bots 365 is via a mid-call tool. You create a custom tool that calls the SMS API endpoint with the recipient's phone number, your sending number's ID, and the message body. When the assistant invokes the tool during a call, the message is sent instantly.
This is ideal for use cases like: "I'll text you the link right now" — the assistant sends the SMS in real time while the caller is still on the phone, so they receive it immediately. See the Custom Mid-Call Tools guide for setup instructions.
SMS Compliance
SMS messaging is subject to regulations in most countries. In the United States, the TCPA requires prior express written consent before sending marketing SMS messages. Always ensure you have appropriate consent before using SMS for marketing purposes.
A2P 10DLC Registration (US)
If you plan to send SMS messages at scale in the United States, your phone numbers may need to be registered under the A2P 10DLC (Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code) framework. This is a carrier requirement designed to reduce spam. Contact Live Bots 365 support to assist with the registration process.
